Continuous fibre thermoplastic composites have a history of about 20 years. Historically, continuous fibre reinforced thermoplastic composites were used in niche applications in aerospace and defence markets. But in recent years, the market has exploded in automotive, sporting, transportation, industrial and other applications.
Demand has been driven by a variety of aerospace, automotive and truck applications and SRIM is now being used for many applications including furniture, fasteners, medical, marine and other higher performance applications.
By combining the vacuum forming of a UEV (Vinyl) skin with a backing of SRIM in one process a moulding that has structure, aesthetic finish and soft feel results. Such mouldings are typically used in vehicle dashboards, headliners and interior panels.
